LA is, just that, LA – contemporary, yet classic; sensible, yet eccentric; in-your-face bold, yet behind-a-hat-and-shades private; a mega-opolis of 8 million that’s truly a place of contrasts.
While Los Angeles offers the glare of Hollywood’s spotlight on fame, it also provides dozens of secluded nearby neighborhoods for those behind the see-and-be scene who produce the stories. To claim their inspiration they require spaces of solitude and serene repose.
The home is under construction and the images in this blog are 3D renderings. The neighborhood offers offers a diverse blend of old charm and modern styling, and they wanted a home that offered the latter — a dramatic 4,000 square feet borne in contemporary design with an emphasis on livability, sustainably-crafted, with honesty in materiality.
The Architect, Matthew Hofmann, introduced a strong indoor-outdoor space relationship with a focus on blurring the distinction between interior spaces, if not eliminating the distinction all together. Hofmann also introduced methods for being conservative with expensive materials and design features while delivering a high “bang for your buck” application in select spaces. Natural materials were celebrated and prominently featured.
Being in Southern California, proper day-lighting was imperative in the design of the project. Integral sun-wise systems included air conditioning, passive solar in the pool, natural ventilation and shading, plus a photovoltaic solar generation system.
