Family Explores Australia in an Airstream

“It never gets old talking about something so old!”

Campfire“We enjoy getting away to our favorite city escape that’s just a 45-minute drive from our house,” Robert wrote in an email that he sent along with some photos of their adventures. “Since it’s so close, we may wake up on a Saturday morning and say, ‘It’s a such a lovely day! Let’s hitch up the Airstream and head up to Glenworth Valley.’ So we take the short drive for a day of horseback riding and relaxing as a family without the hustle and bustle of the city.”

Sleeping-ChildOther weekends, the family travels a bit further afield. “Other times, we have taken the Airstream to our friend’s farm a couple hours away on the outskirts of New South Wales. We never tire of traveling through towns and watching the faces of people as they see us approaching and passing by in this shiny Airstream,” adds Robert.

View-rearThe Airstream is a conversation starter. The old term, Rubber Necking, as the Australian’s like to say, is true to its sense. “People will watch us come and go and it never ceases to bring a smile to their faces,” he adds. “When we stop for gas or a snack, people will invariably come up to us and share a time or memory in their life with an Airstream.”

Apparently, the Airstream is also a great free-parking-location-getter, too. “People open up their arms and welcome you with advice, tips on road travel or offers for us to stay on their land!” wrote Robert. “But easily the single most rewarding part is experiencing the joy people get by showing them something strange, new and shinny. That part never gets old.”
