Santa Barbara Architect Matthew Hofmann’s choice to live in an Airstream travel trailer caught the attention of an HGTV producer late last year. This past December, a 4-person crew came to town to film a segment featuring Hofmann’s passion for small space living for the series, “You Live In What?”
Sara Ivey is the producer and director of AMS Pictures, which is based in Dallas, TX. Her production company is developing 13 episodes for the HGTV series. The segment featuring Hofmann was set on the site of HofArc’s latest project, the Santa Barbara Auto Camp. The Airstream hotel features four of Hofmann’s latest renovations.
“We’re telling stories about people who have converted and live in an unconventional home,” explained Ivey. “Our goal is to create unique experiences that engage, enlighten and entertain audiences.”
The series focuses on unusual homes, some large, some small, unusual and opulent, even one that is surrounded completely by water. The expected debut for series is in the Spring of 2013.
“Not many people understood why I wanted to live in a trailer at first,” says Matthew, when he explains his reasons for living in an Airstream. “When they see what I get to live in, and they hear my story, they get it. There’s a deep-rooted passion that many people have for slimming down their lifestyle. It’s about living simply, with everything you need and nothing you don’t.”
Stay tuned. We’ll let you know when the piece on HofArc is scheduled to air.
