
Raised in the mountains of Mammoth Lakes, CA, Matthew is deeply influenced by the interplay of indoor and outdoor space. His passion for the great outdoors is evidenced by his strong elemental approach to projects. Prior to his professional career, Matthew worked as a craftsman in the many trades of construction for he has personally managed, hands on, several projects from the ground up. He believes in the vital connection between design and construction and the close awareness one must have between the two in order to inform the most successful projects.
Matthew worked with DesignARC Architects, a regional Architecture and development firm in Santa Barbara, CA. His project range included high-end residential, multi-family mixed use, and the ongoing international development of an extensive residential and commercial center in Chengdu, China.
In 2011, Matthew founded Santa Barbara based design and manufacturing company, Hofmann Architecture, aka HofArc, renown for the execution of mobile and deployable, small-space installations. The company has been featured in countless digital and print publications as well as a number of television specials featuring interviews of both the Matthew and the company. HofArc’s projects have brought international news coverage in over 20 countries worldwide, strategically positioning the company as the foremost leader in the industry. HofArc has designed and delivered projects all over the globe, including England, Japan, and Australia. Matthew remains Chairman of Hofmann Architecture, and is charged with oversight and strategic company direction.
Matthew co-founded Prospect Hotels in 2013 with the successful completion of the Santa Barbara Autocamp.The company was created to leverage the mobile and modular model of development with the progressive and genuine hospitality experience that is demanded by modern travellers.
Matthew plays an active role in local non-profit organizations with a core focus on the mentorship and professional growth of our entrepreneurial youth. His is actively involved with Partners in Education, founded in 1977 to connect businesses and individuals with schools and the organizations that serve them. He also supports a number of non-profit groups including Safe Launch, The Santa Barbara Bike Coalition, and sponsors the growth and development of aspiring entrepreneurs around the world.
Matthew graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. He is licensed to practice Architecture in the State of California and is a US Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional.
