Matthew Hofmann is the founder behind Hofmann Architecture. Since childhood, he has been fascinated with the way things go together, the intricate parts, the details that make up the whole. Prior to forming Hofmann Architecture, Matthew had the honor to work with DesignARC architects in Santa Barbara, CA.
Raised in the mountains of Mammoth, CA, Matthew is deeply influenced by the interplay of indoor and outdoor space. His strong elemental approach to design explores the relationship between form, context and materiality. As appropriate to context, the line between indoor and outdoor may be blurred, if not eliminated altogether. His harshest critic has always been himself, as he strives to constantly improve on his work.
Matthew’s process responds naturally to each client’s unique program and site. He insists on use of concept and metaphor to inform design progression – ensuring functional and ascetic relation between unique parts and the whole. It’s most important to go beyond listening to what a client wants and understand what a client needs. This is only possible by understanding who a client really is. Relationships are most important, objects come and go.
Matthew graduated from California Polytechnic State University with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. He is licensed to practice Architecture in the State of California and is a LEED accredited professional.
