Maitlyn Fitz
Westward Ho!!!
Say, “Hello!” to Maitlyn, a born and raised “East Coast gal” who’s honing her Architectural skills out West at Hofmann Architecture.
We believe in mentoring young people and supporting them in their search for a career. Which is exactly why we are huge fans of internships. Typically, we have 4-6 interns exploring their interests to “learn by doing.” We offer internships in Architectural design and several construction trades for students of all ages — from high school, to recent college, to post grad.
Maitlyn’s a fantastic intern who’s up for anything. She’s taken leadership of our new fence logo and organizing the Hofmann Architecture artwork for the I Madonnari chalk art festival held Memorial Weekend at the Santa Barbara Mission.
What’s her favorite part of her internship? “Hanging out with the office dog, Lilly!”
Hofmann Architecture: Please tell us a little about yourself?
Maitlyn: I am from Beaver, Pennsylvania, which is a small town north of Pittsburgh. Back home, I live with my parents and our two cats. I graduated in December of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies from Kent State University and I am currently living in Santa Barbara.
Hofmann Architecture: How did you find Hofmann Architecture?
Maitlyn: Luckily! Santa Barbara is one of my favorite places, so I decided to come here for a change of scenery and a new beginning. I searched for architecture firms, landscape architecture firms and other design firms in the city and applied to a large group of them. Hofmann Architecture caught my eye since it was a little different than most firms, with its specialization of Airstream restoration and renovation. I liked that and thought I would give it a shot. You never know, right?
Hofmann Architecture: What do you do for Hofmann Architecture?
Maitlyn: Currently, I work as an intern, specializing in Architectural design. I help out around the office and the shop yard with any work the employees need help… I’m learning a bunch of cool stuff.
Hofmann Architecture: What’s it been like working for Hofmann Architecture?
Maitlyn: Amazing! I really like it here. Everyone has been so welcoming and I feel like part of the family. Also, I have been learning a lot both in the office and in the shop yard. I try to see and learn as much as I can every day.
Hofmann Architecture: What do you do for fun and recreation?
Maitlyn: I love going to the beach and gathering as many seashells, pieces of sea glass, and unique rocks as I can, or as I call them all “treasures from the sea.” I also like kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. I am a big fan of music, so I try to listen to music as much as I can. I’ve also been playing the cello since elementary school. I dabble with the violin and guitar as well. You may catch me singing sometimes when I am working. J Visiting new places here in California, or anywhere else in the country is something I love to do. I am also a big shopper, especially thrift stores. You never know what you are going to find.
Hofmann Architecture: What else do you like about living in Santa Barbara?
Maitlyn: The weather! I love how it is sunny all the time, and that the ocean is close as well as the mountains. There’s a lot to see and do in the city. I also have family here so seeing them every day or every week rather than for short vacations at a time is really nice.
Hofmann Architecture: What are some of your aspirations?
Maitlyn: I am hoping to get a Master’s Degree in either Architecture or Product Design. I am still deciding on which field would be the better fit for me. I believe a lot can be done in merging the two fields as well. In the future I hope to still be in Santa Barbara working at a place I love and learn something new every day. Most importantly, my goal is to be happy.

So wonderfully proud! It’s so great to see you picked the right firm! See you soon and look forward to seeing you all in person!
Stop by and say “Hi!” — any friends and family of Maitlyn’s have got to be amazing as she is.
