Going Tankless!
If camping conjures up bad memories of cold showers then this blog is just for you.
Today’s new and improved on-demand water heaters are the smart way to take a get hot water on the go. Whether it’s for washing hands, dishes or taking a bath or shower, without running out of hot water is a bummer.
The typical RV water heater stores less than 9 gallons of hot water – that’s a pretty short shower. And then, there’s the wait time between showers. You get the picture?
Thankfully, tankless hot water heaters are easy on your pocketbook and the earth, because a tankless water heater uses up to 60% less LP gas than typical storage tank type water heaters. The key is they only use energy when hot water is needed.
There’re also safer because there isn’t even a pilot light to burn.
A traditional storage water heater loses heat just sitting there. Even insulated tanks lose heat that goes right out the flue.
There is no tank to run out of hot water so you can shower all day or night if you want.
5 fast tankless water heater facts
- They’re easy. There’s no pilot light to relight when they go out.
- It’s compact. It fits into any existing water heater cut-out opening. Overall dimensions are only 12.5” X 12.5” X 15.5”.
- Will not corrode or rust. No tank means you never have to worry about corrosion eating away at the tank.
- No hassles, year-around. There’s no need to drain any water out of the unit for the winter.
- The is one hitch… there’s a short delay in hot water delivery. Although water is hot as it leaves the heat exchanger, any standing water in the lines must be drained before hot water is felt at the faucet.
How a Tankless Water Heater Works
- A hot water tap is turned on.
- Cold water enters the heater.
- A water flow sensor detects that water is flowing.
- The unit automatically ignites the burner.
- Water circulates through the heat exchanger.
- The water is heated to the set temperature.
- When the tap is turned off, the unit shuts down.
